OFNL broadband speed test

Measure the real download and upload speed of your full-fibre connection. The test uses multiple parallel streams, so the result reflects real-world use rather than a single file transfer.

Powered by OpenSpeedTest. Press start and allow around 20 seconds for both halves of the test to finish.

What the numbers mean

Download

Everything you pull in: streaming, browsing, game and app downloads. OFNL packages advertise from around 40 Mbps up to 900 Mbps.

Upload

Video calls, cloud backups and sending large files. Several OFNL providers sell symmetrical packages where upload matches download.

Ping and jitter

How quickly the connection responds and how steady that is. Full fibre typically sits well under 10 ms, which is what matters for gaming and calls.

Before you test

Getting an accurate result

Use a cable if you can. Wi-Fi is usually the bottleneck, not the fibre. An ethernet cable from the router gives the true line speed.
Pause other traffic. Downloads, backups and 4K streams elsewhere in the house all share the line while the test runs.
Run it more than once. A single reading can catch a busy moment. Two or three runs a few minutes apart give a fair picture.
Check the router, not the ONT. Your OFNL connection arrives at an optical terminal, but the speed you get depends on the router behind it.

Not getting the speed you pay for?

Every provider on the OFNL network uses the same fibre, so a faster package is often only a few pounds more. Compare every live deal, or see what your connection can already do for streaming live TV.
